Sabah Immigration To Continue Deportation Exercise - Director

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Immigration has deported 6178 detainees as of June 17 this year, according to the department’s newly appointed director Noor Alam Khan bin A. Wahid Khan.

The breakdown of country of origin and the number of the detainees deported were: Philippine 4475, Indonesia 1594,   Brunei 1, Indian 3, Pakistan 24, China 36, Ukraine 2, Germany 1, Vietnam 30 and Nepal 12.

Noor said the twice a week exercise to deport them will be carried out throughout the year.

He was speaking to the official media after paying a courtesy call to the Head of State, Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Juhar bin Datuk Haji Mahiruddin at the Istana Negeri this morning.

He said a total of 17,728 detainees were deported in 2011 and the figure went down to 12,551 in 2012.

He said these detainees from three detention camps at Papar, Sibuga and Tawau were sent back to their respective countries for various  offences under Immigration Act 1959/63  including entering and staying in Malaysia without valid Pass or permit and overstaying.-/PENERANGAN
