BE VIGILANT AGAINST SUBVERSIVE THREATS AGAINST NATION

KOTA KINABALU : Malaysia’s  56 years of independence can be jeopardised if we are not careful and vigilant as we faced many form of  threats.

Sabah Information Department Director Haji Almain Ajirul said such threats can come in many forms, even through virtual and social media, as such we must be wary of the news contents of such media.

He was delivering his speech before presenting the prizes to the winners of  the Merdeka Cheer Competition, State Level at a leading hotel here Wednesday night.

“This our our land, the place where we were born and bred. We are the heir to this land and we have a duty to protect our land. We can teach our future generation to fight these bad elements without even taking arms but  through patriotism and love for the country,” he said.

Almain said the Lahad Datu incidence was an awakening call for all of us  to constantly remind and be vigilant of the security of our country.

“Should we have any information of any subversive activities of our enemies, we must inform our security personnels and we should not allow them to penetrate  our society,” he added.

On the Merdeka Cheers competition, Almain said the it is held during the Merdeka month , not so much for the prizes alone, but to create awareness and nurture patriotism among the people and organisations to love our country and cherish the independence.

The competition organized by the Sabah Information Department, was first held in 2010 . The objective is to give due recognition to individuals and organisations  who display high patriotism and respect for the Independence Day.

The competition is divided into eight categories namely School, Government Building, Traditional Kampung, Main Gate, Individual, Private Building, Housing Estate and Anjung Komuniti 1 Malaysia.

Apart from displaying national flags, winners are selected based on their creativity and patriotic components.

Under the School category, the SMK Badin, Tuaran was adjudged the best school and for the government building, the Kota Kinabalu City Council was selected as the winner.

The other winners are Kg Tombotuon , Tambunan ( best Traditional Kampong ), Giat Mara Tenom (best Main Gate ), Proton Edar Sdn Bhd (best private building), KRT Taman Teluk Villa Putatan (best housing estate), Komuniti 1 Malaysia Kg Sinulihan, Keningau (best Anjung Community) and Hj. Mohd. Halikin bin Angga (best individual).


Winners under each category carried a cash prize of RM500, a trophy and a certificate of participation.-/PENERANGAN
