KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said from now onwards, the Community Development Officers (CDO), would be known as Community Development Leaders or Pemimpin Pembangunan Masyarakat (PPM) in Bahasa Malaysia.

Previously they were known as Pemimpin Kemajuan Rakyat or PKR officers in short. He said he received many complaints regarding these leaders who were called as PKR leaders.

“These leaders  may be wrongly connoted to the opposition political party – Parti Keadilan Rakyat,” he said.

Musa said he made the changes to the name after a request from the Director of the Sabah Community Development Leaders Unit, Datuk Japlin Akim.

Musa was speaking to 600 over participants during a meeting session with the Community Development Leaders at Menara Tun Mustapha here this morning.

The Chief Minister expressed confident that with new brand name, new image,  new challenges and new approach, the community development leaders would be more  proactive, responsive and work hard in keeping close contact with the people.

He said the leaders played crucial role in conveying the important messages of the government as they worked very  close  with  the people on the ground.

“This is the responsibility that is given to you. We want you to give the best service to the people. This is very important. We want them to know what the government is doing for them through various policies, projects and subsidies. We want them to know that the Barisan Nasional government is still relevant and in the hearts of the people”, he said.

The Community Development Leaders  are politically appointed by the State Assemblymen of the respective constituencies to assist them in political and community matters.-/PENERANGAN
