SANDAKAN : The Scout Movement can produce good citizens who are mentally and physically strong to face life’s challenges.
Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan said the trainings provided by the Scout Movement moulds the character of the participants to be positive.
“ The little problems such as lack of water supply and toilet facilities in Jamboree are some of the challenges that the participants have to learn to tackle and by doing so they become physically and mentally more strong,” he said.
Tawfiq was speaking at the the closing ceremony of the International Jamboree in conjunction with the 100 years of Sabah International Scouting celebration and Second Sabah Scouts Jamboree at the Scout Nature Park here last night.
He further said as the movement’s activities are geared towards building positive characterss, his Ministry is all out to extend full support by giving financial allocations.
“ This year we have given out RM189,000 for the Sabah Scouts Association,” he added.
“ By supporting this good cause, we hope to produce a younger generation of great calibre who are physically and mentally fit. These people later can face any type of challenges in life,” he said.
The jamboree attracted about 6000 local and international participants from Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Philippines, Nepal, Maldives and Brunei.
The event was attended by deputy Youth and Sports Minister Masiung Banah, National Chief Scouts Commissioner Dato’ Dr. Hj. Mohamad Shahrum bin Osman, Sabah Chief Scouts Commissioner Datuk Awang Zaini bin Haji Suntim and other invited dignitaries.-/PENERANGAN
